Project Brief: Custom Furniture for a New Cosmetics Research Laboratory

A US-based beauty and personal care product developer was setting up a new R&D laboratory and needed laboratory furniture tailored to its room layout and working requirements.

The client provided a floor plan showing the intended furniture arrangement. Using this drawing as the starting point, VitalLab developed a customized laboratory furniture solution featuring fingerprint-resistant brushed stainless steel, elevated three-tier reagent shelving, and integrated power outlets.

The objective was to create a coordinated workspace with practical storage, convenient access to power, and surfaces designed for easier routine maintenance.

Custom Laboratory Furniture Built Around Three Key Requirements

1. Fingerprint-Resistant Brushed Stainless Steel

The client selected a brushed stainless steel finish with fingerprint-resistant properties for the overall furniture system.

Frequently handled laboratory surfaces can quickly show fingerprints and everyday marks. The selected finish helps make these marks less noticeable than on conventional stainless steel finishes, supporting a cleaner-looking workspace with routine cleaning.

Using a consistent finish across the laboratory furniture also creates a cohesive appearance throughout the room.

Material selection remains an important part of laboratory planning. The suitability of stainless steel and its surface treatment should be assessed against the chemicals, cleaning agents, and working conditions expected in the laboratory.

2. Raised Three-Tier Reagent Shelving

To make better use of the available vertical space, the reagent shelving was designed with additional height and three tiers.

This configuration provides multiple levels for arranging frequently used laboratory materials and containers, helping keep the work surface organized while making use of the space above the bench.

Rather than relying on a standard shelf configuration, VitalLab incorporated the increased height and three-tier design into the client's customized layout.

The result is a storage arrangement planned around the intended workspace, with final dimensions and load capacity determined by the approved design and installation requirements.

3. Integrated Power Outlets for Everyday Convenience

Embedded power outlets were incorporated into the reagent shelving to bring power access closer to the working area.

Planning the outlets alongside the shelving helps coordinate furniture functions from the outset and can reduce the need for separate accessories placed around the bench.

Outlet positions and specifications should be confirmed against the equipment being used, electrical requirements, and applicable local codes before installation.

Together, these three design decisions addressed the project's main priorities: surface maintenance, vertical storage, and convenient workstation power access.

From Customer Floor Plan to Factory-Approved Shipment

The project began with the client's room layout drawing and proceeded through customization, manufacturing, inspection, and international delivery.

After production, the client arranged for a quality inspector to visit the factory and examine the completed furniture. The goods were approved by the client's representative before packing.

Following inspection, the furniture was secured in wooden export crates and shipped by ocean freight to the United States.

This pre-shipment inspection gave the client an opportunity to verify the finished goods before dispatch, an important step when purchasing customized laboratory furniture for a new facility.

Installed in the Client's New R&D Laboratory

After installation, the client shared photographs showing the completed furniture in the new laboratory and expressed satisfaction with the project.

The installed furniture brought together the customized stainless steel work surfaces, three-tier reagent shelving, and integrated power outlets within the planned workspace.

For this project, customization was not simply about choosing a material or changing a product dimension. It involved translating the client's room layout into a coordinated furniture configuration, addressing practical day-to-day requirements, and confirming the finished goods before international shipment.
